This unusual black snuff box was designed in Italy out of papier mache. The artisan included a mother of pearl inlay border and center star pattern before applying a durable lacquer finish. This little box was used for snuff circa 1900 to 1905 but today it could be used for trinkets and or as an interesting tobacciana collectible. There is some wear on two sides and a bit of crackle on the top not affecting the color. Some of the finish is rubbed off on the inside edge due to age and use. The mother of pearl inlay is intact. The box is in good condition with no cracks to the papier mache and it opens and closes nicely.
